The Story
They return to the first sketchbook. They would still start with one clear application, durable truth, a public contract, and simple operational evidence. They would make modules explicit earlier, introduce queues when waiting became harmful, and extract services only when business pressure earned them. They would not start with a fleet of services, treat cache expiry as inventory truth, or let a successful extraction become a template for every feature. They would write down how to remove complexity before adding it.
The Decision
Keep an architecture decision record for material choices: what remains valid, the operational tax, the invalidation trigger, and the reversal path. Revisit decisions when evidence changes, not when fashion changes.
